Yes virginia, the musical

The school play is a time-honored rite of education. But shrinking budgets meant many school drama programs were disappearing.

We saw an opportunity to fill that gap while at the same time helping Macy’s make a connection with local communities across the country. So in 2012, we took our animated special, adapted it into a musical for grade-schoolers, and gave it away. No rights. No royalties. Any school that wanted to perform the show, could have it for free. Thousands did — generating millions of dollars of free press and goodwill for the venerable department store.
